Overview
SonoBus is an open-source application designed for streaming high-quality, low-latency audio between multiple users over the internet or a local network. It operates as a peer-to-peer system, allowing direct audio transmission between connected devices without central server bottlenecks. SonoBus supports multiple platforms including macOS, Windows, iOS, and GNU/Linux, and also functions as an audio plugin (AU, VST, and AAX) for integration with digital audio workstations (DAWs). The software uses the Opus codec, offering a range of audio quality options from uncompressed PCM to compressed bitrates, ensuring flexibility in balancing quality and bandwidth. It's suitable for musicians collaborating remotely, podcast recordings, remote audio sessions, and any application requiring real-time, high-fidelity audio transmission. Features include input compression, noise gate, EQ effects, and master reverb to optimize audio quality. While SonoBus does not use echo cancellation or noise reduction to preserve audio fidelity, it emphasizes the importance of using headphones and wired ethernet connections for optimal performance and minimal latency.
